Yesterday I found out through Twitter that I received a nomination for the Liebster award by the blog MeTheQuitter.
I’d never heard of this award until I was nominated. Being nominated for the award is very exciting as it is a sign that my blog is reaching people and that hopefully I am helping and/or providing inspiration to engaged couples and people within the wedding industry. When I started this blog my posts detailed my journey of trying to plan a wedding on what I thought to be a small budget, however as I have gained readers and followers I developed the content of my posts to provide How To’s, advice and inspiration on creating a wonderful wedding celebration on a limited budget.
The Liebster award is awarded to bloggers (preferably blogs who have fewer than 200 followers) by other bloggers to help the blogging community discover new blogs.
Part of the Liebster award protocol is to answer the 11 questions given to you by the nominator, to then nominate fellow bloggers for the award and give them 11 questions you would like them to answer so we can all get to know each other better and create a wonderful blogging community. So here goes!
MeTheQuitter gave me the following 11 questions to answer:
Why did you start your blog?
This blog was started as a personal diary of my wedding planning journey when I was first engaged to my now ex-fiance as we were planning with a 6K budget which was less than half of the average wedding budget at the time of 20K. I was a regular on some wedding forums at the time and became friendly with others brides who were asking for advice on how they could plan their wedding on budgets similar or less than mine, which then made we decide to share some of my advice through my blog.
What changes have you noticed about your blog since you started it?
My blog no longer focuses on just budget wedding related topics. In among posts relating to small budget planning I also post about fantastic suppliers I have found, my favourite colour schemes and ideas on how to make your wedding day unique and memorable.
Out of all your own blog posts, which is your favourite?
I’ve got to say I still love my early posts, such as my post on how I made woolen pompom buttons holes, wrist corsages and a bridal bouquet. My MIL and I spent a couple of weekends making the woolen pompoms and then thinking about how we could use them to create alternative corsages and a bridal bouquet. I took pictures of the processes to upload so that others couples looking to go the alternative route by not having any flowers could replicate in their own way what we were creating.
Where in the world do you live, and if I were to visit what would you recommend I do/see?
I live in Berkshire, UK which is in the south-east of England. One of the most famous places I would tell you to visit within this country is Highclere Castle. The very popular UK TV show Downton Abbey was filmed at Highclere Castle. The best time to visit Highclere Castle is 1st August when ‘Battle Proms’ is at the castle.
Who is your biggest inspiration in life?
My mother is one amazing woman! She is one of the most intelligent and strongest women I know. If I weren’t to choose my mum, I’d choose my sister who is also unbelievably resilient.
What achievement are you most proud of in your life so far?
Getting in to university. I was the first in my family to do so.
Are you in education or do you have a job? What level of school are you at/what type of job do you do?
I currently work full time for a lighting company as a Key Account Manager. When I first started at the company you could fit my knowledge about lighting on the back of a postage stamp, but it is amazing how much you can learn when you’re paid to know it!
Whats your average Sunday like?
It’s got to start with a lazy morning. No rushing to get ready and go anywhere. After a late morning shower usually there is cleaning and tidying, gardening maybe even the grocery shopping. By mid afternoon usually the H2B and I meet up with some friends before going home early evening for a bath and watching some TV before bed.
Which film is your guilty favourite?
Can you see yourself still blogging in five years time?
God yes! My love of a good wedding wont be gone in five years time! Maybe once I’m married I’ll be helping a friend plan theirs?! hehe.
How would you sum up your blog in five words?
Now I get the pleasure to nominate some of the blogs that I have discovered. The blogs I have chosen to nominate are ones that I follow who I think have a bright future and deserve to be promoted. In no particular order here are my nominees…
Lorn McVean with her travel themed blog where she also writes about her own wedding planning story springsaunasteam
Fellow curly girl, Samantha with her deeply honest and beautifully written blog thesamanthachronicle (@)
Kaitlyn who writes my favourite kind of blog – a mix of serious posts and frivolous posts! DreamyKaitlyn (@)
Of course you are free to choose if you accept the award; However it would be awesome if you choose to spread the love and nominate a few more people. I’ve nominated these people for a reason, so go check out their wonderful blogs and spread the word!
My questions for you lovelies are:
- How did you decide on the name for your blog?
- Why did you start blogging?
- What bloggers inspire you?
- When did you last read a book and what was it?
- Who has had the biggest impact on your life?
- Which three countries are at the top of your bucket travel list?
- What is your comfort food?
- Are you a morning person or a night owl?
- When do you tend to write your blog posts?
- Tea or Coffee?
- If I were to give you 10,000 of your currency (IE for me £10,000) what would you do with it?
To my nominees: I can’t wait to read your answers. To every one else: I hope you have enjoyed reading this as much as I have enjoyed writing it. Some of the questions given to me were hard to answer, but I hope you’ve learnt a bit more about me.
Thanks you reading! 😀
